How I Pick My Passages

Nothing is more nerve wracking than putting your writing out there into the world. But using passages from your work is the best tool you have to promote it.

Everyone has there own method and way to do this, so I can only speak from my personal experience on this matter. Also I will only be able to speak from a romance fantasy writer perspective, so thus this will be a short read. When I get to the point where I can start pulling passages for promotional material I always ask myself: "What would get me?" Think about the snip-bits of taglines and teasers that have pulled you in. The things that have gotten you to buy a book, click a link, or whatever. Then, you need to consider your target audience. So in my position I'm a romance writer and a fantasy writer. I love mushy gushy scenes and magic. And since I write what I like to read, my readers will like the same things. Thus the passages I pick are usually romance scenes or "butterfly builders" as I call them. Now they aren't always between people. Sometimes it's a romantic description of a place or the way someone looks. It helps the readers get into the mood. Into that lovey dove feel. I'll often share descriptions of places first, then descriptions of people, and then maybe one or two romantic interactions between people. It's a slow build up. Have them fall in love with the world, the person, then the couple. But again, that's how I do. It'll vary from genre to genre and I'll do my best to give examples over in my video this week! Love always,
